What do the Governors do?

The role of the governing body is to work with the senior management team of the school to provide strategic management for the school. It is not our job to make any professional decisions, these are for the teaching staff to make. However, we do need to keep abreast of any changes in school and to make sure that they are of benefit to the childrens’ education. Our main input lies in the areas of monitoring and evaluating, overseeing the budget and strategic planning.

How does the Governing Body work?

To ease the time burden on governors and to ensure we work in the most efficient way, the governing body divides into three committees to oversee the bulk of our responsibilities. These are Finance, Curriculum Development and Personnel. These committees report back to full governing body meetings, which take place once a term. Most decisions must be agreed by the full governing body. Governors are also involved in other groups and roles, e.g. SEN, performance management workforce remodelling etc.

What do I do if I want to raise an issue with Governors?

You can speak directly to any of the governors, many of whom are in the playground very regularly, or you can write a letter to the chair of governors at his home address. Any issues raised will be dealt with confidentially and promptly. The LA offers a high level of support and advice, so any difficulties can be thoroughly dealt with.
