Links with the Local Community
We enjoy performing within the local Church at Harvest, Christmas and Easter. We enjoy welcoming members of the local community to share with us and for refreshments back at school.
We hold our School fete at the same weekend as the Village's Scarecrow Festival and are the venue for refreshments on the Saturday. Each year we enter the Scarecrow Competition and in 2013 we were awarded a special certificate by the committee in recognition of effort. In 2014 we were awarded 1st prize for the Group Category and the People's Choice as well. We aren't sure how we will beat that in 2015 but we will enjoy trying!
At Christmas we sing at The Village's Christmas Lunch which is a great opportunity for the youngest and oldest members of our community to meet together.
The Village has a Coffee Morning once a week, the Headteacher and Chair of Governors are on the rota to run this event and the children attend on occasions to mingle and entertain.
Bradgate Park run events for the local community such as a Christmas and Summer Fayre. The children enjoy singing and performing at these events too. We also work closely with the Land Agent and the Rangers both inside the park and visits from them to school to enable us to share this wonderful resource we have on our doorstep. Tyburn Class are lucky enough to have been inside Old John!
Our Gardening Club are lucky to be supported by Master Gardener Mrs Woolmer.
We are grateful to Newtown Linford Cricket Club for letting us use their cricket ground to hold our annual Sports Day. The children also enjoy sessions run by one of their cricket coaches to develop their cricket skills. We have also been involved in supporting their application to Biffa for funding for a new double-bay synthetic turf practice facility (artificial nets)
Rev Peter leads an Assembly within school once a month and the children look forward to seeing what his jute bag contains! We are also proud to have him as one of our Community Governors.
Most months The Newtown Linford Magazine contains an article about school, sharing with the community what our school has been doing and inviting them to join us at our events.
The Headteacher and Chair of Governors attend specific Parish Council meetings to share the news of the school and enable us to work in partnership with the local community.
The grave of Joseph Spence, who served in WW1, is where our children honor the two minutes silence on Remembrance Day. We are proud to have links with his Grandson and enjoy welcoming him into school to share with us his memories and to help truly bring history alive and have significance for our children.
We make great use of the Village Hall for our indoor PE sessions and after school sport activities. Our children also enjoy performing on the stage for class assemblies and whole school end of year productions. We are grateful to the community for enabling us to use it so often.
The Linford is also used by Friends of Newtown Linford Primary School as the venue for School Discos. We are grateful for their support in letting us use their spacious room.
We are now excited to be involved with a new National Trust property Stoneywell. We have visited as a whole school and look forward to having our own section of their kitchen garden to grow our own foods.
We have worked with local charity The Bridge being part of their Reverse Advent Calendar project.
